Kindergarten
Students must be a minimum of 3 years old and toilet trained to start school. Beginning kindergarten students may apply and be considered for entrance at any point during the school year. After completing the application and providing all necessary documentation, parents meet with the Education Council in order for their child to be admitted. This meeting is an opportunity to discuss any questions that may have been raised by classroom observation or review of the provided information on Montessori.
There is no English language evaluation at the Kindergarten level, however a student may be recommended to take ESL classes if they are not able to function in the classroom due to language difficulties. There are additional fees for all ESL classes.
New kindergarten students may be accepted for attendance on a half-day basis until their teachers and the Education Council determines they are ready to attend full days. Parents may also decide that half days are more appropriate for their child for the first week of school.
Elementary
Applications for elementary students are accepted before the start of each term, and new students are expected to begin at the start of a term. Prospective elementary students, along with their parents, must have an interview with the Education Council after submitting their application. It is highly recommended that parents schedule a classroom observation if they have not already observed.
Elementary level students whose native language is not English must have an ESL evaluation to determine their ESL needs. There are additional fees for all ESL classes.
Within the first week of attendance, new upper elementary students will be tested in the areas of language and mathematics, helping to determine the academic level/ability of the child to ensure proper placement, and to allow the teacher to plan lessons.
* Preference will be given to siblings of students already attending the Rawai Progressive International School.
